Unit 1: Number and place value
Tens and ones, reading and ordering numbers, adding on, taking away, skip counting and sharing.
1.1 2-digit numbers
– Big numbers are made of tens and ones.
1.2 Reading and writing numbers
– Numbers can be written in digits and in words.
1.3 Ordering numbers
– Which number is bigger? Which comes first?
1.4 Counting on
– Add by counting on from the bigger number.
1.5 Partitioning
– Split numbers into parts to make adding easier.
1.6 Counting back
– Take away by counting back.
1.7 Difference between
– How many more? How many fewer?
1.8 Skip counting
– Count in 2s, 5s and 10s – much faster!
1.9 Equal shares
– Share so that everyone gets the same.
1.10 Ordinal and cardinal numbers
– First, second, third – numbers that show order.
1.11 Odd and even
– Can every number make pairs?
1.12 Doubles and near doubles
– Two the same makes a double.
1.13 Estimating and rounding
– A good guess is a clever start.
1.14 The equals sign
– = means “is the same as”.
1.15 Arrays and times tables
– Rows and columns help us count fast.
