Grade 1 · Unit 1: Number and place value
Numbers can be written in digits and in words.

We see numbers on houses, buses, clocks and price tags. A number written with digits is a numeral. We can also write it as a number word.
27 is written twenty-seven. The tens word comes first: twenty, thirty, forty… Then the ones word: one, two, three…
A hundred square shows the numbers from 1 to 100. Each row has ten numbers. Going down a column, the numbers grow by ten.
Look down the column under 7: 7, 17, 27, 37 … The ones digit stays 7 and the tens digit goes up by one each time.
In Bangladesh we also write numbers with Bangla digits. 27 is ২৭ in Bangla. It still means 2 tens and 7 ones. Different digits, same number!
