Grade 5 · Unit 8: Location and transformation
Translate, reflect, rotate.

Jamdani weavers repeat motifs across the cloth. They slide, flip and turn the designs. These are transformations: translation, reflection and rotation.
Every point moves the same way. Describe it: 5 right, 3 up. The image is congruent to the object.
A reflection flips the shape over a mirror line. Points are the same distance from the line on both sides. The shape faces the other way.
A rotation turns a shape about a point. Say the angle (90°, 180°), the direction, and the centre. Tracing paper helps you rotate accurately.
