Time and time zones

Calling family abroad

Many families in Bangladesh have relatives abroad. When it is 8 p.m. in Dhaka, it is 3 p.m. in London (in summer 2 p.m.). Different places use different time zones.

World time

Dhaka is GMT + 6. Places to the east are ahead; places to the west are behind. Tokyo is 3 hours ahead of Dhaka.

Flight durations

Leave Dhaka at 01:00 Dhaka time. Arrive at 04:30 Dubai time = 06:30 Dhaka time. The flight takes 5 h 30 min.

Long durations

Time does not use powers of 10. 60 seconds, 60 minutes, 24 hours. Convert carefully.

Timetables and calendars

Train A takes 6 h 30 min; train C travels overnight. Quarter to four in the afternoon (15:45) is later than 15:40. Use a calendar for longer intervals: 3 March to 14 April is 6 weeks.
