Sales

A shop sign says “25% off”. Percent means out of 100. 25% = 25/100 = ¼.

Percentages on a grid

40 out of 100 squares are shaded. 40% = 0.4 = ⅖. Fractions, decimals and percentages are equivalent.

Finding a percentage

50% = half. 25% = quarter. 10% = ÷ 10. 35% of ৳800 = 25% + 10% = ৳200 + ৳80 = ৳280. Build any percentage from known ones.

Discounts

Discount = 25% of ৳800 = ৳200. Sale price = ৳800 − ৳200 = ৳600. Or: pay 75% of ৳800 = ৳600.

One amount as a percentage of another

Sadia scored 18 out of 25. As a percentage: 18/25 = 72/100 = 72%. Order percentages and decimals together: 0.7 < 72% < ¾. Estimate first: 18 out of 25 is a bit less than 75%.
