Venn and Carroll diagrams.

Scientists sort animals by what they have in common. Mathematicians sort numbers the same way. The rules are called criteria.
Numbers in the intersection fit both rules. 6, 12 and 18 are even AND multiples of 3. Numbers outside both circles fit neither.
A Carroll diagram has four boxes. Each number goes in one box. Compare it with the Venn diagram.
Sorting trees ask yes/no questions. Each answer leads to another question. Scientists use sorting trees (keys) to name living things.
