Time to the minute

Read clocks to the minute and use timetables.

Train times

Trains leave at exact times. A timetable lists departures and arrivals. We need to read time to the minute.

Reading to the minute

Count in 5s to 35, then 2 more: 37. We say 37 minutes past 2. Or 23 minutes to 3.

a.m. and p.m.

a.m. is before midday. p.m. is after midday. 8:00 a.m. is morning; 8:00 p.m. is evening. Midday is 12:00 p.m.

Using a timetable

Train A leaves at 6:40 a.m. and arrives at 1:10 p.m. Elapsed time: 6:40 → 12:40 is 6 hours, then 30 minutes = 6 h 30 min. Which train is quickest?
