Grade 3 · Unit 5: Using units of measurement
How much space does it take? How much does it hold?

A rooftop tank holds 1000 litres of water. That is its capacity. The space the tank takes up is its volume.
Build shapes with cubes. Count the cubes to find the volume. 4 long, 2 wide, 2 high = 16 cubic units.
This jug shows 1500 ml. 1000 ml = 1 litre, so 1500 ml = 1½ litres. Read the scale at eye level.
Use millilitres for small amounts. Use litres for big amounts. A teaspoon holds about 5 ml.
