Grade 2 · Unit 1: Number and place value
Clever ways to add without writing.

Scorers at a cricket match add runs very fast. They use mental strategies. You can learn these tricks too.
Use number bonds to 10. 8 + 5: 8 needs 2 to make 10. Split 5 into 2 and 3. 10 + 3 = 13.
A double is a number added to itself. 6 + 7 is a near double: 6 + 6 + 1 = 13. Learn your doubles to 20.
Adding 10 moves one row down on a hundred square. 34 + 30: jump down 3 rows. You land on 64. The ones digit stays the same!
