Grade 1 · Unit 5: Using units of measurement
Which tool measures what?

Builders, cooks and doctors all measure. They use the right tool for each job. Today we meet some measuring tools.
A ruler measures length in centimetres. Put one end of the pencil at 0. Read the number at the other end: 9 cm.
A scale has numbers in a curve, like a bent number line. The pointer stops at the mass. The marks between numbers have values too.
A thermometer shows how hot or cold it is. The red line goes up when it is hot. It goes down when it is cold.
Measure a book with a ruler. Measure rice with a scale or a jug. Measure the weather with a thermometer.
