Grade 5 · Unit 1: Number and place value

Written addition

Large numbers and decimals in columns.

Exports

Bangladesh exports clothes, jute and fish. Adding export values needs written methods. We line up place values carefully.

Large numbers

Add column by column from the right. Carry when a column is 10 or more. Estimate: 350 000 + 250 000 = 600 000 ✓

Decimals

Line up the decimal points. Add a placeholder zero: 8.6 = 8.60. 24.75 + 8.60 = 33.35.

Money and measures

Line up the points. Fill gaps with zeros. Estimate to check.
