How much do I pay? How much do I get back?
At the tea stall
Tea costs ৳10 and a samosa costs ৳15. What is the total? ৳10 + ৳15 = ৳25.
Adding prices
A banana costs ৳12 and a mango costs ৳30. Total: ৳12 + ৳30 = ৳42. Add the tens first if that helps: 10 + 30 = 40, then 2 more.
Giving change
You pay with a ৳50 note for ৳42 of fruit. Count on from 42 to 50: that is 8. Your change is ৳8.
Can I afford it?
You have ৳50. Can you buy a notebook and a ruler? 35 + 15 = 50. Yes, exactly! What else could you buy with ৳50?
Taka and poisha
100 poisha make 1 taka. ৳17.50 means 17 taka and 50 poisha. Prices in shops are often written this way.
