Grade 2 · Unit 6: The Earth and the Sun
The Earth spins – that is why we have day and night.

The Earth is a planet. It is shaped like a ball. It is in space, near the Sun.
From space, you can see blue oceans, brown and green land, and white clouds.
The Earth spins all the time, like a top. It turns round once every 24 hours.
It is the Earth that turns, not the Sun.
The side facing the Sun has day. The side facing away has night. As the Earth spins, we move from day into night.
On one side of the line the Sun is setting. On the other side it is already night.
When it is morning in Dhaka, it is night in America. Someone, somewhere, is always waking up!
While Dhaka sleeps, it is daytime in countries on the other side of the Earth.
