ON means on top of something. UNDER means below it.
I wonder: What is on your table? What is under it?
IN means inside something. BEHIND means at the back of it, where it may be partly hidden.
I wonder: Where is the best place to hide in your classroom?
IN FRONT OF means before it, where you can see it. NEXT TO means right beside it.
I wonder: Who is next to you right now? Who is in front of you?
Now any position word can come: on, under, in, behind, in front of, next to – and BETWEEN, which means in the middle of two things.
I wonder: Can you give a friend directions to find something hidden?
