Bird Sort

Help the birds find their nests! Sort them by colour, by size and by hats – then say which nest has more.

Levels

Level 1: Red and blue (about Grade 0)

Sorting means putting things that are the same together. Look at the colour of each bird.

• I can sort by colour
• I can put things that are the same together

I wonder: What else could you sort by colour at home?

Level 2: Three colours (about Grade 0)

Now there are three nests. Every bird goes to the nest of its own colour.

• I can sort into three groups
• I can check each bird is in the right nest

I wonder: If a purple bird came, where would it go?

Level 3: Big and small (about Grade 1)

This time the colour does not matter. Look at the size: big birds together, small birds together.

• I can sort by size
• I can ignore colour when I sort by size

I wonder: Can you sort the same birds in another way?

Level 4: Hats on, hats off (about Grade 1)

Sort the birds by their hats. Then count each nest: which nest has more? How many more?

• I can sort and count each group
• I can say which group has more and how many more

I wonder: How could you show your nests as a picture graph?
